Macquarie University Supervisor Register (MQSR)

 

MQSR provides an externally available list of HDR supervisors at Macquarie who meet supervisor appointment requirements. It is a list of approved MQ supervisors, but not all supervisors listed on this register are necessarily be available to take on new Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates.  MQSR provides summary information for each approved supervisor about their research area of expertise and contains contact details.

 

Eligibility to be appointed as a Principal, Acting or Associate Supervisor requires academic staff to meet the following minimum requirements:

 

  1. Completion of an initial workshop within the last three years and completion of one update workshop per year in order to be remained on the MQSR
  2. have a permanent academic appointment to Macquarie University or to have a fixed term appointment of at least three years
  3. have a doctoral degree or equivalent
  4. be research active
  5. approval of the Executive Dean to be a  Principal, Acting or Associate Supervisor.

 

Note: Completion of one update workshop per year is required of all current supervisors.

 

MQSR Approval Authority

 

MQSR has an embedded approval authority hierarchy requiring approval from the Head of Department, the Associate Dean Research and the Associate Dean Higher Degree Research (HDR) to appear on the register. The approval authority mapping is as follows:

 

 

1.       Have completed supervisory training within the last three years.

 

      Data about the supervisor training completion date is stored in the MQSR database and is harvested at log-on.  An application cannot be progressed if there is no supervisor training completion date within the last three years.

 

2.       Have a permanent academic appointment to Macquarie University or to have a fixed term appointment of at least three years.

 

      The Head of Department confirms that the supervisor meets the employment criteria.

 

3.       Be research active.

 

Although data is harvested from IRIS about the applicant’s research activity, the Associate Dean Research of the Faculty confirms that the applicant meets requirements as provided for in the research active definition (b) held at:

4.       Have a doctoral degree or equivalent.

 

Supervisors of research candidates are required to hold a doctoral degree or equivalent.  The Associate Dean Higher Degree Research (HDR) confirms that the applicant meets the doctoral degree requirement. Where no doctoral degree is held, approval for an equivalent level of qualification must be obtained from the DVC Research.

 

5.       Have the approval of the Executive Dean to be a Principal, Associate or Acting Supervisor.

 

The Associate Dean HDR is delegated to approve on behalf of the Faculty Executive Dean that the applicant meets all requirements and is approved to be listed on MQSR.

 

 

MQSR Signup process – for Supervisors

 

Step 1 Login to https://mqsr.mq.edu.au/mqsr

Enter your staff ID (e.g.: MQ20071234), your default password is the lower-case version of your staff ID (e.g.: mq20071234).

 

Please note because MQSR is not currently able to interface with IT Services' authentication system, MQSR keeps a separate database of username and passwords.

 

Therefore, if you receive a "Username or password is incorrect." Error, your username may not currently be on MQSR's list of users.  Please contact the IRIS helpdesk with your staff ID, via OneHelp, with the Request Type of "Research Office" → "Access" → "Login Issues" → "MQSR", for a login and password.

 

 

Step 2 Signup:

Cilck on the “Self signup” action item.

 

On the contact details edit form, you can selectively override details of your personnel record from IRIS for display on MQSR - fill in the field and select the radio button next to that custom field:

 

 

After you've submitted your request, you can then view the status of your signup request if you click on the “View pending requests” link.

 

Alternatively, if you had an old record that was previously deleted, you can choose to undelete that record – simply search for you name, click on your contact record, then click on the “Un-delete” link underneath your contact details.

 

MQSR Approval Process – for Approval Authorities

 

The approval process for MQSR is multi-staged to ensure the correctness of data for the individuals:

 

To Sign-up / un-delete:

            Departmental approval (HoD) Research active confirmation (AD/R) Faculty approval (AD/HDR)

To Amend:

            Departmental approval (HoD) Faculty approval (AD/HDR)

To Remove:

            Departmental approval (HoD) Faculty approval (AD/HDR) HDRO approval

 

 

Step 1 Login

Step 2 Approve / reject request

Click on the "View pending requests" action link and you will see a list of requests to approve.

 

Click on the "Review" link next to each of the request in order to review and approve / reject the request.

 

Please note the rejection reason (when rejecting a request) is not currently recorded or used - just press the "Reject" button for now.
